BINGHAM FARMS, MICH. February 16, 2009 — my1HIE, LLC (My One Health Information Exchange) announced today that over one million e-Prescriptions have been sent from over 700 affiliated healthcare providers throughout Southeastern Michigan. my1HIE has worked with physicians to help them actively adopt the usage of e-Prescribing through their My WorkspaceSM Physician Web Portal. Working with its member physicians organizations, my1HIE has been able to educate and train providers and their staff on the improved care and safety and the time and cost benefits that e-Prescribing offers to them and their patients. With continued double digit adoption rates and increased e-Prescibing usage, my1HIE healthcare providers have accounted for over 1 million of the estimated 8 million electronic prescriptions written by the State of Michigan, making my1HIE the largest group of independent physicians e-Prescribing in the State of Michigan. e-Prescribing is an option offered through my1HIE®, the health information exchange, that allows health care providers to use any PC with internet access to write and transmit prescriptions instantly to a pharmacy. Providers receive alerts on patient drug allergies, drug interactions and therapeutic duplication, access insurance plan eligibility and formulary compliance, authorize renewals and refills, and easily track a patient’s medication history. Approximately 7% of the prescriptions written were changed or cancelled due to drug-to-drug interactions and allergy-to-drug interactions, allowing my1HIE physicians to help prevent an unknown number of unnecessary patient illnesses, hospitalizations and even deaths. An additional 60,000 formulary alerts were identified at the point-of-care, which saved patients money by providing a more affordable alternative. Dr. Jerome Finkel, MD, Managing Partner of Internal Medicine Associates of Mt. Clemens, was instrumental in getting my1HIE over the million e-Prescription mark with his adoption of the technology. “In our complex world of medication interactions, allergies and multiple insurance formularies, not to mention sheer volume of prescriptions we write on a daily basis, e-Prescribing has dramatically improved the efficiency, safety and traceability of prescribing for physicians and staff,” said Finkel. Matt Walsh, Associate Vice President of Purchaser Initiatives at HAP, has provided e-Prescribing implementation resources and expertise to my1HIE. “e-Prescribing provides real value to all healthcare stakeholders – patients, providers, and payers. my1HIE® has proven to be an innovative solution that delivers the value of e-Prescribing to a broad spectrum of physician practices.” In 2009 my1HIE will continue to expand its relationships with physician organizations and their member physicians, moving beyond Southeast Michigan to help improve patient care throughout the state. In addition to e-Prescribing, my1HIE physicians continue to securely share clinical information to increase the quality of patient care and safety, improve efficiencies and reduce the overall cost of healthcare. New for 2009 my1HIE introduces the WellCentive patient registry to its’ affiliated physicians. |
